São José dos Campos- What to eat

If you ever come to São José dos Campos and have never eaten a "pastel" , now it is time to try it. They are everywhere in Brazil, but not all of them are worth the sin. I say "sin" because people worry so much about calories. Usually the ones at the weekly street markets are good, but today I would like to recommend a place I like a lot. It is called Pastelaria Via Porto at Av. Andromeda 1772.
They have many filling choices but I go there specially for the crab filling. I also like shrimp, "carne seca" (jerked beef), pepperoni , mushroom with garlic, onion, parsley and chive. The price ranges from R$ 2,00 to R$ 3,80.
You might wanna call there before going to check on their opening times. 3939-6617
If you are not in the mood for pastel, in this same avenue, on the corner before the Pastelaria there is a Bradesco Bank agency. Ok, right on the bank's parking lot, right in front of the bank, there is an old man with a little barbecue cart. He has been there for 12 years, he is licensed and sells the best barbecue sticks (espetinho, churrasquinho) in town. R$ 2,50 each. He is there usually between 6 and 9 pm.
Of course there are many great and fancy places to eat here but these are the ones you can go when you just want a snack and dont want to change your clothes or meet people.

Além dos recheios tradicionais tem uns que eu adoro. Meu preferido é o de siri. Gosto também do de camarão, carne seca, peperoni e o de champignon com alho, cebola cheiro verde. O preço vai de R$ 2,00 a R$ 3,80.
O de siri nem sempre tem então eu aconselho ligar antes pra conferir e também checar os horários que eles abrem. 3939-6617.
E pra quem gosta de churrasquinho, na minha opinião o melhor fica ali na Andrômeda mesmo, na esquina antes da pastelaria, do mesmo lado, na esquina do Bradesco. Tem um senhor com um carrinho bem no estacionamento do banco. O espetinho é super honesto. Ele está lá há 12 anos e tem licensa. Ele fica lá mais ou menos das 6 as 9 da noite e se não me engano não trabalha domingo. Neste horário é fácil para estacionar. Dá até pra ir de pijama !! hehehe
